Day 3
We are on day 3 of our newly expanded family. Everyone is still doing great. Daddy and son are spending lots and lots of time together to let Mama and daughter rest and settle in to breastfeeding. Thank you again so much for all the wonderful wishes and congrats! We feel truly blessed!

Introducing Anna Maria Greaney
Anna Maria Greaney was born at home yesterday, January 18 at 5:54pm, weighing in at 8lbs12oz and measuring 18 inches, a day shy of 39 weeks. She was born in the water, where we spent at least the first 30 minutes of her life, examining each other. It was a wild day. I felt "something" the night before and some mild contractions in the morning, but I carried on cleaning the house, doing laundry, and making Shepherds Pie until after 2! I just wasn't quite sure, if it was the "real thing". I was in touch with my midwife, Vickii, all day and decided around 3, that someone should probably come. The wild rain had brought on three births under the care of my midwives that day, and so a back-up midwife, Andrea, was called to the rescue. I had met her before and liked her a lot, so I felt more than comfortable with her, though it would have been nice to share the experience with Vickii. Her assistant, Deborah, got here about 4:30, and Andrea got here just after 5pm, so they weren't here very long before the baby was born! I spent the most part of heavy labor in the birthing pool and got the water birth I had hoped for. James was in the room when she was born and cried a bit only at the end, freaked out a bit by my screaming. He calmed down quickly and chose to stay with us to be part of the commotion. My great friend Carol was here to give him a little extra attention and help out. The whole experience was surreal and amazing!
We are now resting and settling in. Ania is latching on very nicely so far, so hopefully breastfeeding will start off a little easier this time. James is intrigued by his new sister and has begun to hold her and grab her little hands. Daddy is proud and seems to be enamored with her already. We are all doing well. Thank you for your warm thoughts and kind words!
